Why don't people use the correct separator for their signature on email?

Why does nobody know that if you put 

-- 

(that's minus minus space) just above your .sig then email clients know that it's a sig and will strip it off when quoting the reply.

IT'S NOT DIFFICULT!

Although, having calmed down a bit I do realise that most clients are actually broken in this regard. Especially with HTML formatted mail.
